Do You Really Know What Beauty, Fashion & Lifestyle Is?

Definition of Fashion.

Fashion has different meaning to different people across the world, from east to west every culture and race defines fashion differently. To me fashion it means expression of myself and how i project that expression to the outside world. Growing up in a conservative household it was difficult trying to have your own sense of style as what was bought my parents no matter how hideous and unflattering it might have been was what you had to go parading yourself in, because to them we had to be dressed in an acceptable manner, a manner in which would not give reason for the neighbors to talk about. This meant no self expression was allowed or a case of indifference was permitted.

Moving away from my country of birth a few years before i hit my teen years was the best thing that happened to me with regard to the fashion exposure that i was yet to experience. Being in a country that had its own way of doing things (shall i say a more liberated people) was a new eye opening experience. People were individuals, with their own sense of style own sense of fashion. They dressed up not because they were told to but because they were expressive of who they were.

Before i knew it in this new different environment i was in expressing my fashion sense was easy and before long my parents too were in support of some of the fashion decisions i made. I was now an individual able to self express myself through my fashion sense being mindful of not having fashion dictated to me by the media.

The dictionary definition of what fashion is for those unsure of its meaning is:
The prevailing style or custom, as in dress or behavior: out of fashion.
Something, such as a garment, that is in the current mode: a swimsuit that is the latest fashion.
The style characteristic of the social elite: a man of fashion.

To some individuals fashion is considered an art form to others a religion. They live for fashion, live to be the best dressed, live to be different from the norm.

For most people it is a method of utilizing clothing, accessories and hair to either show or hide something about oneself.  Expression of fashion can serve as an extension of ones personality: goth, skater, soccer mom and so forth.
Through fashion one can disguise ones true self: a conservative such as my self for example in vamp dark clothing for the sake of rebellion to my parents.

The term lifestyle can denote the interests, opinions, behaviours, and behavioural orientations of an individual, group, or culture.

The term was introduced by Austrian psychologist Alfred Adler with the meaning of “a person’s basic character as established early in childhood”[3], for example in his 1929 book “The Case of Miss R.”. The term was introduced in the 1950s as a derivative of that of style in modernist art[4] [clarification needed], and the broader sense of “way or style of living” has been documented since 1961.[5] The term refers to a combination of determining intangible or tangible factors. Tangible factors relate specifically to demographic variables, i.e. an individual’s demographic profile, whereas intangible factors concern the psychological aspects of an individual such as personal values, preferences, and outlooks.

A rural environment has different lifestyles compared to an urban metropolis. Location is important even within an urban scope. The nature of the neighborhood in which a person resides affects the set of lifestyles available to that person due to differences between various neighborhoods’ degrees of affluence and proximity to natural and cultural environments. For example, in areas within a close proximity to the sea, a surf culture or lifestyle can often be present.
